- by Raphaela Neihausen, September 24, 2008
STF kicked off its fall season on Sept 23 with the opening night sneak preview of AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD which will have its official US premiere at the Woodstock Film Festival next month. STF inaugurated a new location for its post-screening gathering: the Fat Black Pussycat conveniently located at 103 West 3rd St across from the IFC Center. As usual, the STF audience contained many notable figures from the New York documentary community.
Pictured here are:
1) Andrew Berends (right), recently returned from Nigeria where he was detained by the government while working on his documentary Delta Boys, with filmmaker Amelia Hanibelsz and Alex Travelli, a writer and editor for The Economist.
2) Andrew Neel, director of ALICE NEEL and THE FEATURE, with film consultant Jennifer Warren.
3) Dan Stone (left), the director of AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD, with his brother Craig Stone, who produced the film, and their mother Dr. Stone.
4) Lucia Small (left), co-director of AXE IN THE ATTIC (which debuted at last year’s New York Film Festival), with Emma Piper-Burket of Kitchen Caravan
Among the other audience members who didn’t make it into our photos were George Stoney, who will be the focus of a STF tribute on Oct 21; Patrick Gambuti, the co-director of AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD; Lucy Walker, the director of BLINDSIGHT, visiting from out of town; David W. Leitner, who presented the film FOR ALL MANKIND at STF in February; Jesse Epstein, recently named by Filmmaker Magazine as one of 25 New Faces of Independent Film; Andrew Mer, from the acquisitions team at SnagFilms.com; and Risa Mickenberg, the lead singer of the band Jesus H Christ and the Four Hornsmen of the Apocalypse who play at the Living Room this Friday and will have a CD release party at The Blender on Oct 20.
