SWEET DREAMS
Q&A with director Eric Latek and boxer Gary "Tiger" Balletto
This extraordinary debut by director Eric Latek plays out like a Martin Scorsese drama. Set in the “wiseguy belt” of Providence, Rhode Island, SWEET DREAMS tells the tale of two Italian-American men: boxer Gary “Tiger” Balletto, seeking to unionize his sport; and Derek, a part-time street bookie struggling to find his place in the world. Shot over three years, the film gains incredible access into their lives. Latek puts his own cinematic signature in his visual approach. His verite camerawork is a wonder to behold. He honors the sport of boxing while never glossing over its more unseemly sides. The film premiered at the Full Frame Documentary Festival. This is its first showing in New York. Read more here.
