Ken Loach is visiting New York to promote his new film THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY (winner of Cannes’ Palm d’Or). He’s graciously agreed to join us for a rare screening of his documentary WHICH SIDE ARE YOU ON? Made for British television in 1985, the film looks at a miner’s strike during a time when Loach was repeatedly being censored as too political. Here he approached the politics sideways through the response of songwriters and other artists to the miner’s strike. Yet he still ran into trouble. The screening will be followed by a long discussion with Loach about his career’s crossover between documentary and fiction films.
